Is it safe to let my 10 week old baby sleep on her front?

Daniel asks…

Is it safe to let my 10 week old baby sleep on her front?

HIya I am having trouble getting my 10 week old baby girl to sleep at night, she is fine during the night after her feeds she goes straight back down no problem. A friend has advised that her little boy settles better on his front, my little sister slept on her front from birth and was perfectly fine, Im just nervous about trying it with my baby. I have a camera on her in her room and the monitor clips to my clothing and sits on my bedside unit at night so I can keep an eye on her. Has anyone else found putting their baby on their front to sleep more successful. Her bedtime routine is bath at 7pm, warm bottle at 7.30pm, a little cuddle then bed at around 8ish, but she usually only finally gos to sleep at about 10pm, she won’t let me put her down and just cries and whinges to be picked back up. Any ideas? lol it would be great to be able to use that time to actually do some housework as she doesn’t give me much chance during the day xxx
No don’t think she is collicky :/ my mates baby had colic and screamed and screamed but mines different its more of a whingy cry because she don’t want to go to bed yet lol. But it isn’t doing much to help me get her in a routine.

admin answers:

Instead of putting her down to sleep on her tummy, try different things in her routine that might be keeping her awake. When you give her the bottle at night, make sure its in a dark room with no bright lights(a nightlight is ok) where there isnt any background noise. Give her cuddles then to sleep in her basket/cot once winded. Try not to rock her to sleep in your arms as she will expect this when she is older too. You will find she should be really sleepy and go off pretty easy. I had this trouble for the first 2 months of my lil boy, and found out I was doing it all wrong by letting him fall asleep in my arms, with the tv on in the background.

summer infant video monitor hums?

I just bout a hand held Summer infant baby video monitor 2.5″ screen. When I plugged the camera into the outlet I noticed it has a humming/buzzing noise. Is this normal or is it defect? And has anyone had any problems with this?
Thanks!

admin answers:

Not sure about this specific monitor but I know a lot of monitors get a humming noise if you have wireless internet and stuff around the house. It’s something to do with analogue monitor technology and digital household equipment.

Bob asks…

How do you keep baby warm/comfy in crib if you’re not supposed to use blankets?

At this point, I’m co-sleeping but I do put my baby in her crib during the day for naps. Because I watch her closely with the use of a camera monitor, I have been placing her in the crib with a blanket. I’ve read that you’re not supposed to place baby in crib with blankets, stuffed toys and that crib bumpers shouldn’t be used. This seems like an awfully cold and lonely place to sleep for a little baby which is why I prefer the co-sleeping (go ahead all you anti-cosleeping advocates..I fully expect your disapproving comments)….anyway, I’m preparing to use the crib sometime in the next few months but I’m wondering how moms keep their babies warm at night? I know there are special sleeper blankets and onesies…is this what you use?

Thanks so much!

admin answers:

I use crocheted afghans. They have holes all over them so they are breathable and i was told they are safer than a comforter. Either you can have someone make them for you or you can buy them at craft sales… I know alot of people use the sleep bags though but mine like to be swaddled so we use the crocheted blankets to wrap them up.

Jemima asks…

Do you let your baby sleep in your bed when he/she is sick?

Just curious.

I co-slept with my baby until she was 7 months old and transitioned to the crib fairly easy. She’s come down with something and is running a low-grade fever (100-101) and I’m kind of nervous at the idea of her not being in arm’s reach during the night. I’m fearful though of her not transitioning back to the crib after a few nights back in bed with Mommy (she’s 9 months now)….I have a camera monitor but that doesn’t replace me being able to reach out and feel her body/forehead to check her body temperature.

I’m also a little freaked-out because a woman I work with just lost her little boy (2 years old) who had what they thought was a flu and he passed away! :(

What do you do when your baby is sick?

admin answers:

Yep! Definitely. We’re not officially co-sleepers, but when our boy is sick, he stays in our bed. I like to keep an eye on him and be able to check on him throughout the night without having to go into his room and possibly disturb him.

We also have him sleep with us when it’s hot out, since we have an AC in our bedroom, and rather than putting one in his room, he just sleeps with us!

The longest period he’s been in bed with us was maybe 5 nights in a row, but we have been lucky and haven’t had a problem with him going back and forth between crib and bed.

How scary about the woman you work with! So sad.

Best Baby Monitor – Clear Blue Fertility Monitor Question

Daniel asks…

Clear Blue Fertility Monitor Question!!!?

Hey ladies – I am contemplating going out and getting the Clear Blue Fertility Monitor….how were your experiences with it? ALSO, today is the 9th day of my cycle so if I go get the monitor tonight, can I start using it tomorrow or do I have to wait until day 1 of my next cycle?

Thanks so much for all your help and support! Best of luck this month to all my TTC ladies out there and truck loads of baby dust to all!!!!

admin answers:

I have one and have been using it for 7 months, and I absolutely love it. I highly recommend it. It’s super easy to use, and takes a ton of guess work out of this whole TTC business. You have to wait to start it next cycle now. You can set it as late as day 5, but anything beyond that has to wait. It’s very important to wait to use it till next cycle, as it will work best that way. Don’t attempt to use it this cycle, it will screw it up for you, and won’t be as accurate the following cycle.

Wishing you lots of luck and baby dust :)

Kylee asks…

6 week old baby is sick.. doctor sucks. breastfeeding question?

my family has had the flu this week, myself my husband my 4 year old daughter and my 2 year old son is just coming down with it.
i have a 6 week old baby boy who is a big eater, breastfed. i know he has been exposed to the germs so is most likely ill himself. he has no fever, no diarrhea, but now sometimes after a feeding he will puke up alot of what he drank. he also is not suddenly not very interested in nursing.

i am worried so i called the doctor.
he basically told me to stop breastfeeding the baby and start giving him watered down formula, and pedialyte so that i can monitor how much fluids my son is taking in.

i do not want to do this, i don’t want to give him formula at all, for one thing at 6 weeks old we are still working on our breastfeeding “skills” and interrupting that seems like a really bad idea if i plan to be successful at breastfeeding. and for another, isn’t the breast milk giving my son the antibodies and immunities he needs to fight the sickness anyway?
third with him not being very interested in eating suddenly (remember he was a big eater) i feel like my breasts are not getting drained really, and i can’t seem to get much out when i pump (just a couple ounces at best) i know pumping means nothing compared to how much the baby gets out. but at this point with him not eating much i am beginning to worry about my supply slacking off..

advice is needed, should i do as the doctor says? and will i still have enough milk to satisfy him once he pulls out of the illness and regains his appetite?
actually, i called the doctor to ask if i was doing the right thing. and he dismissed my ideas. but whatever

admin answers:

Oh my! Your doctor doesn’t sound very breastfeeding friendly. Do not suppliment! That is asking for trouble. You are absolutely correct in your think. It will interrupt your routine and will decrease your supply. The more often you empty your breasts, the more you produce.

Rest assured that he is protected. Your breastmilk is like a vaccine/antibiotic for your baby. It will protect him. He could still get a small case of the yuckies but he will recover quickly and it will not be anywhere near as bad as we adults feel.

Sometimes babies throw up. There’s nothing to worry about unless he completely refuses to nurse at all and is extremely fussy. If there aren’t any other factors causing concern then he’s fine. If it makes you feel better, you can take a babymoon. Tonight, co-sleep with him. Lay him in bed next to you (remain topless all night) and allow him to nurse while you sleep. He’s able to latch on with little to no help at this age and can eat until his tummy is full, while you’re able to enjoy a nights rest.

You can also try pumping at the same time you nurse him. Just switch sides with each feeding. Stimulating both breasts at the same time will boost your supply naturally. Again, supply and demand. Also, you can take fenugreek (you’ll know you’re taking enough when you smell like maple syrup), blessed thistle and more milk plus. All of these are safe to take can help you.

Good luck mama..and try not to worry. He’s doing just fine.

Nancy asks…

what did the doctors give me during my labor to bring up baby’s heart rate?

I was induced when I had my now 2 year old daughter. I am trying to figure out what medication the doctors gave me during labor as a result of my babies plummeting heart rate. I came in the night before was given the tampon like medicine to thin my cervix the next morning at 6:00 am they broke my water and hooked me up to the pitocin. My body was progressing along and by 10:00 am my contractions were so painful that I began the pain medication demeral or morphine not sure the one they put in your iv and can only give you a total of 3 spaced out every hour. The first one gave me 10 minutes relief an hour later the next one gave me 5 minutes or less of relief then the next hour the nurse suggested I go ahead and see if I can start the epidural because I was 100% effaced and around 5 or 6 cm and something about the pain medication they were currently giving me doesn’t usually work for taller girls?? Strange but whatever. So at noon I got my epidural I was amazed b/c they place it when you are actually have a contraction and I was amazed that I didn’t even feel them insert it! So I have my epidural and I am totally numb, I mean totally numb they had me lay on my right side saying that it works best if you lay on your side or something like that. They said after an hour I could flip over to the left side so the hour came and the nurses came in to check on me and see if I wanted to flip over to the left side which I did b/c I could feel a little pressure on my hips (I gained a lot of weight during my pregnancy went from 140lbs to 205lbs and I am 5’7, 2 years later I am smaller now than prepregnancy) Anyways they had to flip me b/c I was so numb. So they rolled my big butt over to my left side and before they made it out the door the machines start buzzing so one nurse runs back to me looks at the machine and calls another nurse they both look at the machine and whisper to each other and then rush over to tell me that the babies heart rate is dropping I look over to the monitor and see that it goes quickly from 160 to 100 to 60 to the last look before they both tossed me back to my right side it was at 37 beats! So they have me on my right side and then it goes from 37 to 45 and stays at 45 – 60 back and forth so they nurse is messing with what I think was something behind me and it was medication and she said ok we are going to give you something for the baby‘s heart rate that is going to make you feel like your heart is fluttering in your throat and within seconds this jittery panicked feeling of my heart feeling like it will explode out of my throat happens. It made me feel sick like a panick attack. But the heart rate went right back up and the nurses told me the baby didn’t seem to like the combo of the epidural and me on my left side so they wanted me to stay on my right side and pulled out the foot pedals and had me keep my right leg bent at the knee laying on the bed and my left leg up in the pedal. I had to stay like this until I was ready to push which was 5 hours and not move! Luckily by 5:20 pm I thought I had wet myself and called for the nurse when in reality the baby was starting to crown and it was time to push so 15 minutes later and 4 pushes my baby was out. She scored high on her apgar yet the only concern was she was not crying but very alert so they let me see and hold her but quickly took her to the nursery area before my husband could hold her or family come see her. It was almost 2 hours before I was taken up to recovery and able to see my baby. Later I heard a few nurses use the term because it was a trauma birth?? Which shocked me b/c she scored high on her apgar and no one ever talked to any of us about it. Apparently she swallowed some miconeium I believe they mentioned something about it taking so long for me to get to 10 cm after my water had broke 12 hours? I didn’t realize that was considered a long time I did have a low grade fever and they also said trauma b/c of how quickly my delivery was and that since she came out so fast she came out with the meconeium and inhaled some which isn’t what they would consider a routine normal labor to happen so fast 15 minutes 4 pushes. Anyways she was fine we all went home on the normal schedule and she was in our arms by 9:00 pm that night with no other issues. My question is what was the medication they gave me to raise my babies heart rate and cause my heart to feel like it was beating out of my throat? Was it some type of adrenaline or what? On a side note my right hip bone ached for 6 months after the delivery it was so painful after as a result of having my big ol’ body lay on it for 5 hours uhg! That was the only painful thing about my labor.

admin answers:

Sounds like it was Tertbutaline. Fetal heartrate can drop for many reasons. Some of them could be really bad, like jf a cord were wrapped around the neck. Some are normal, like normal reaction to contractions. (Doctors can tell by the pattern of how it drops on their monitor.) Strong contractions of the uterus, pitocin, and epidurals can all cause heart rates to drop, and you had all three happening. Tertbutaline is actually a drug they use to stop contractions in premature labor, but it also stimulates the heart. For you, they probably used it both to make your contractions less strong, and to stimulate the baby’s heart. Unfortunately, it also stimulates your heart too, which is why you felt “anxiety” and a funny heartbeat.

Meconium is baby poop that comes out when the baby is still inside. And if you have your membranes ruptured for a long time, they’re more likely to poop. It’s green, and very thick. They can inhale the poop, and most of the time, it’s ok, but sometimes, it can cause a bad pneumonia. Sounds like your baby did fine, but the nurses pass it on to each other, just in case, so everyone is aware.

Baby registry “must-haves” & “don’t-need-its”?

Reposting this question, hoping for more responses since it is not late at night :)

I’m making my registry for my baby shower, and this is my first baby. I have an idea of what I need, but could use a little help. I know that the checklists provided by the baby stores are a little overkill (really!? a switch plate cover is a “must-have”? and I “must-have” a crib AND a cradle AND a play yard???). Let me know what baby item(s) you consider as “must-have” and which things that you thought you needed but could have done without. Please feel free to include “nice-to-have” items as well.

This is what’s on my registry so far:
*bumbo & tray
*exersaucer
*snuzzler & Britax Marathon 70 convertible seat & seat protector (we have leather interior…also, my best friend has offered their infant seat if the convertible doesn’t work for us–it has never been in an accident)
*sleep sacks (Halo) & swaddles (aden & anais)
*changing pad & cover (have a space for the changing area so don’t need a changing table)
*swing & bouncer (FP My Little Lamb)
*diapers & wipes & ointment (Pampers diapers & wipes, California Baby ointment)
*moby wrap & baby bjorn (I prefer the wrap style, DH prefers the baby bjorn)
*diaper bag
*pack n play & extra sheets
*diaper genie & refills (have two small dogs, hoping this will make diapers inaccessible to them…looked at Munchkin as well, but the door opens on the side & they will figure it out)
*puj tub & California Baby wash products (Calming Body Wash & Super Sensitive lotion)
*Medela bottles & breast milk storage bags/bottles & accessories (best friend has the swing pump & no longer uses it)
*cloth diapers (to use as burp rags, changing table liners, etc.) & burp cloths
*monitor
*nail clippers & thermometer
*nursing cover
*sleep sheep sound machine
*crib & mattress (MIL has purchased bedding set & boppy)
*Britax B-Nimble stroller (reclines completely)
*bottle drying rack
*wipes warmer & diaper caddy (Prince Lionheart)
*a few first toys (lamaze mirror, etc.) & baby gym

We are moving when baby is 4 months old, and would prefer to purchase anything that he needs beyond 4 months after the move so that we don’t end up moving a bunch of extra. I did put the exersaucer on the registry since I think it will be good to have during unpacking after the move (he’ll be just about at the age to be able to use it). Also, I did not register for pacifiers. The lactation specialist at the hospital where I deliver advised that I would be given several before we leave. They want me to use the Soothie ones, but only as needed.

admin answers:

*bumbo & tray
Nice to have after 4 months of age

*exersaucer
Nice to have after 4 months of age

*snuzzler & Britax Marathon 70 convertible seat & seat protector
We have a snuzzler for each of our twins. Not worth buying because it only lasts a few weeks before baby is too big for it to use

*sleep sacks (Halo) & swaddles (aden & anais)
You only need the sleep sacks if you keep nighttime temperature below 68 degrees, otherwise the baby can overheat. We bought a lot of nightgowns and it was comfy for them and made diaper changes faster

*changing pad & cover (have a space for the changing area so don’t need a changing table)
We bought a cover and have never used it. It is actually pretty unsanitary to use one unless you wash it every time a butt that has yet to be wiped sits on it.

*swing & bouncer (FP My Little Lamb)
Check the weight limit to make sure it will last for a while. Good swings hold up to 40 pounds. We had a battery kind but ditched them for plug-ins after spending $80/month on batteries

*diapers & wipes & ointment (Pampers diapers & wipes, California Baby ointment)
I have never used california baby ointment but Desitin heals them almost instantly

*moby wrap & baby bjorn (I prefer the wrap style, DH prefers the baby bjorn)
Is DH going to actually use it? Most men won’t so you may want to ask him.

*diaper bag
You may want a small one too just to hold some stuff for when you are just running to the store

*pack n play & extra sheets
I don’t have one, it can probably wait til 4 months

*diaper genie & refills (have two small dogs, hoping this will make diapers inaccessible to them…looked at Munchkin as well, but the door opens on the side & they will figure it out)
I have a Diaper Genie and I hate it, the refills only last a week and it is nice to find one that takes regular trash bags so you don’t have to run to baby stores for it

*puj tub & California Baby wash products (Calming Body Wash & Super Sensitive lotion)
Never used these

*Medela bottles & breast milk storage bags/bottles & accessories (best friend has the swing pump & no longer uses it)
Good

*cloth diapers (to use as burp rags, changing table liners, etc.) & burp cloths
I have these all but never use, instead I use wash cloths

*monitor
I don’t use but can wait until 4 months

*nail clippers & thermometer
Good

*nursing cover
Good

*sleep sheep sound machine
Good

*crib & mattress (MIL has purchased bedding set & boppy)
Good

*Britax B-Nimble stroller (reclines completely)
Good

*bottle drying rack
Good

*wipes warmer & diaper caddy (Prince Lionheart)
I have the same one. Buy the refill now it lasts 3 months

*a few first toys (lamaze mirror, etc.) & baby gym

My essential items are plug-in swings, baby gym, bouncer, and stroller

You didn’t list clothes but mine wear one piece sleep n plays/footed sleepers every day and cute outfits for picture or going out.

I you intend to breastfeed, you will not want to give pacifiers for a few months.

Savannah monitor time!!!!!!!!!?

O.K. i have decided after much thought that i am getting a Savannah monitor to add to my reptile family.

i just want some experienced owners opinion’s.

set up

when its a hatchling (when i buy it) or possibly slighty older. I’m going to start it off With a 15 gal tank. Nice big hide and nice big water dish.
UVB
75 watt spotlight basking light
and Cypress mulch or reptile carpet.

when it almost gets two feet its moving on to my spare 40 gal critter cage. and when it hits just about 3 and a half or 4 feet of he/she goes to a costume made house. dint worry im good at that part have costume cages for iguana and bearded dragon.

Diet
well as a baby its gonna eat lots of crickets meal worms and small pinkies. when it hits like 2 feet it will eat larger mice XL crickets and possibly feeder roaches, eggs, lighty cooked ground Turkey, and some boiled chicken pieces.

and fruits!!!

but im not entirely sure what kinds of fruits are best can recommend some.

Tame?

well im expectingg it to be a lil feisty in its younger years. but i will do my best to tame it, is that part hard? is your sav tame?

well is there any thing else im missing?

thx for taking the time to read this 10 points for best answer hands down

admin answers:

Never give a Savannah Monitor fruits, they are not Crested Geckos or Gray’s Monitor. I’d prefer to give hard boiled eggs with the shell because it’s less messy and has extra calcium. I’d only give pinkies every 2-3 weeks for babies and rats/mice once a month for juveniles and adults because they are very fattening. Give them raw or boiled turkey, never fried, grilled, bake or broiled. Taming is really easy if you get them while they are babies, just handle them daily, hand feed them, walk them and give them treats while you play with them.

What baby item can you NOT live without?

Baby dancing…twice a day, once a day, or every other day?

I am expected to ovulate December 4th-8th. I am taking Clomid – 50 mg (first round), I use ovulation predictor tests, I monitor my cervical fluids. As of right now I am on Day 12 in my cycle.- Should we baby dance a couple times a day (a.m and p.m.), once a day (a.m. or p.m.?), or every other day? What do you think would be best??

admin answers:

I got my bfp yesterday,
this month we baby danced EVERY day from calendar day 10 to calendar day 16…
That was leading up to and including ovulation…
We did this same thing 4 years ago when i fell pregnant with our son…We tried EVERYTHING for 18 months then thought we’d just try the every day thing again and it worked
good luck

What Should I Use To Detect When I Should Try To Conceive?

Im trying to conceive but Im not sure which is good to detect or how to detect when me & my husband should try, what should I do? I know about ovulation monitors but what do they do? & Fertility monitors, which will be best? & How do they work? PLEASE help Im really trying I want a baby so badly.

admin answers:

I found the ovulation urine sticks worked for me. I tracked for a few months while TTC and on month 7 we got our baby! I didn’t do basal temp and mucus checks and all that.

Hope this helps!
Best of luck to you!

Baby Ball Python Temperatures

I just got a baby ball python yesterday (my first snake) and I have sort of a silly question: when monitoring temps, where are the best places to put the thermometers? I currently have a “2-in-1″ hydrometer/thermometer on the cool side of the tank (sitting directly on the substrate) that has consistently read 80.5 – 84.5 during the day and a temperature probe inside of the hide on the warm side that has stayed around 88 – 92. Are these good places to be taking temperatures or should I be doing something else?

admin answers:

You are doing it exactly right. You want to know the temp. Exactly where your snake will be, not half way up the tank wall. Your temperature gradient is also good.

The new diaper genie is AWESOME!!! My sister has the older model and it stinks, but the new one is great!! I agree with the socks, long ones though – the ankle ones just pop off or cut off circulation. You’ll need one of those little nose sucker things for the snot. :) baby gates, for either doorways or stairs. The playyard has been a godsend. If you are going with pampers, you won’t really need the cloth diapers…..Good luck and Congrats!!

Susan asks…

What’s the best way to deal with toddler waking up at night?

I took a look around his bedroom to see if anything in there may be scaring him at night and it SEEMS that everything is okay. We did not have a night light so we purchased one last night to keep in his room so he has a bit of light, just in case. He has his blanket and at least 1 stuffed animal so if he does wake up, he should have things that make him comfortable.

Usually when I hear him through the monitor moving around and I can hear that he’s starting to wake up, I let him be and see if he can put himself back down. Or if he fusses just a bit I still wait it out. But the longer I wait, the more upset he gets. And the other night when I picked him up, he was holding me SO tight it was almost as if he had a nightmare or something. Or that something scared him. I have tried sitting with him in his room, rocking him back to sleep, but he moves around and fights me every step of the way.

Of course he sleeps like a rock in our bed. But I hate it because I get my little corner of the bed with no blankets and the occasional kick in the face, so I’m miserable each time he comes in our room.

My husband loves having him in our bed. He says he loves holding him. Which of course, I love holding our son too. But I also enjoy my sleep…..

Is there any advice you can give to help me convince my husband that our son needs to continue to sleep in HIS room? (I’ve tried using sex against him and it doesn’t work out that well. Baby in bed = no sex)

What is the best way to go with dealing with our 2 yr old when he does wake up at night? Do I ignore him? Do I let him cry? HELP!
I work so my son goes to daycare. They sleep for 2 hrs a day max. Usually my son does sleep the entire time. He plays his little behind off and I have to sing and dance and whatever else it takes to keep him awake on our drive home. By the time we get home, we play a bit more while I cook dinner, and his bedtime routine starts.

He doesn’t drink sugary things at all. Any apple juice he might get is 50/50 water/juice. But usually he’ll drink water or milk.

admin answers:

Don’t give him any food with sugar in it, don’t let him take a nap or don’t let him take a long nap. DON’T let him sleep in your bed,, he’ll get use to it and start waking up and fussing just so he can sleep in your bed. Let him sleep on his own even if he’s fussy let him stay in his room as long as you can tell that he is ok, it won’t hurt him and he’ll learn to put himself back to sleep.

Sleeping moms..what was it like when you put your baby in his/her crib?

Daniel asks…

Co-sleeping moms..what was it like when you put your baby in his/her crib?

Were you a nervous wreck like me?

I’ve had my baby sleeping in my bed since birth because she hated her bassinet, started rolling over onto her tummy at about 2-months old, and because I was so fearful of SIDS.

Well, she just turned 6-months old and I’d started using her crib, in her own room, for naps in the last month or so. She seemed to do fine with this so I decided I’d try to put her in her crib a few nights ago and see what happened. Well…she’s been just fine. No fussing at all about being in crib (Hah! to all you who think co-sleeping is not a good idea because the baby will have difficulty transitioning later!) and sleeps pretty much through the night with one feeding.

Here’s the problem: Mommy’s a nervous wreck and getting far less sleep than when she was in bed with me, kicking me with her active little legs! When she’s in the other room I’m so scared of not being able to see her breathing, scared of her rolling onto her tummy with her face smashed into the mattress (which she has a strong tendency to do) and I’m worried she’s not comfortable because she moves a lot. She always seems to curl up right next to the crib bumpers. This makes me think she’s looking for the warmth usually given by Mommy’s body :o (

I have a camera monitor and can watch her all night long because I keep the monitor on my nightstand, inches away from my pillow. It’s not helping me feel better though!

What have your experiences been?

admin answers:

I am sort of going through the same thing…the only words of comfort I can offer is this. Your baby is now 6 months and the chances of SIDS are much lower as she should have more control of her body. I actually took the crib bumper out of my son’s crib because of how he rolls around. He doesn’t have issues hitting the crib bars, fortunately. Also (and I know this is bad, but it works) I let him sleep with his little “security blanket” bear and it comforts me knowing he’s got something to hold on to. I also had no problems transitioning him from bed to crib. He now sleeps on his side (like a little man, its very cute) and snuggles his bear with a blanket up to his waist. As for me, I read the book Healthy Sleep Habits for a Healthy Baby and took one good piece of advice. Turn the sound off. We had the tv monitor (still do) going, but also a Graco monitor and every bit of noise kept me wide awake at night. You’ll still hear her if she needs you, but its time to trust yourself. She is thriving, obviously, so its time to get comfortable with how things are going to be from now on. Its hard, but you need your sleep too!

What’s it Like in Heaven?
A young couple with a little girl moved into a big old house. The girl appeared to be very happy and to love her new home. One night while she was in bed, she made friends with a little boy named Jack.

The girl’s imaginary friend worried her mother and father and they decided to consult a doctor. The psychiatrist examined the girl and said it was normal for her age.

When they got home they were surpised to find the girl’s toys scattered through the house and the TV turned onto a children’s station. The house had been left completely in order.

The parents decided to buy a baby monitor and placed it in their daughter’s room. They overheard the following converstaion between their daughter and her friend.

debbie: “What’s it like in heaven Jack?”

jack: “I don’t want to tell you. Do you want to play instead?”

debbie: “No, I want to know.”

jack: “OK then, but I can’t tell you, I have to show you”

then they heard a creaking noise

debbie: “Wow, I can see Granny’s house from here!”

jack: “Yes, now you have to jump. Go on, I’ll help you. That’s what my Daddy did to me, he helped me find heaven. Do you wanna?”

Debby’s parents rushed outside where they saw their little girl fall screaming to her death. Her jump was caught on camera. The image showed a mysterious little figure behind her in the window, smiling.

I’m not asking what it’s like lol it’s the title of the story (:

Your story of a little girl wanting to see heaven ending in a fatal fall from her new house, is a good story. Here is what Buddha said about heaven: there are 28 categories, the lowest 6 house fairies still possessiong desires including sexual ones, their compassion and wisdom keep increasing while reincarnating upwards with mundane desires decreasing to naught, while their life-span increase from 9 million earth-years to 8 trillion.

Elizabeth asks…

Where to put baby #3? Sleeping arrangements.?

Once our baby is born we will be keeping him/her close by in our bedroom. When it’s time to move to a crib and out of our bedroom however, we are presented with a bit of a challenge to overcome. Our home has 3 bedrooms upstairs which are occupied by my son and daughter (3 and 5) as well as our master bedroom which is quite small. The bedroom downstairs is sitting empty at the moment and would work as a baby‘s room but I’m not sure if this would be right? We spend most of our time downstairs as the play room and TV viewing room are close by. My other kids won’t move downstairs as they are frightened but a baby would not know the difference. If we were to use the downstairs room, I would install a small camera and monitor in it for keeping an eye on things but I still worry that this is fundamentally wrong. Should I just bunk baby in with one of the other kids? How did you handle sleeping arrangements in your home?

admin answers:

I personally wouldn’t feel comfortable with my baby on a different floor of my house, but I think that if you are really, truly OK with it, I don’t see why not.

FAITH

Back in December 2003 was a perfect year for me. I found out that I was pregnant for the first time in my life. Being pregnant with our first baby was a huge change for our household. My husband and I were married for about eleven months; I was scared. Could I be a good mother? Would I survive labor? Would I survive a child? Being pregnant will be one of the most exhilarating experiences of my life. I decided to eat well and take very good care of myself, feel better and encourage a healthy development of my baby. I enjoyed all the pleasures pregnancy brought to me. As the due date came closer and closer, I began to think harder and harder about my decision to have this child.
On September 2, 2004, I went to my doctor to get my usual weekly check up. I was 38 weeks along and I wanted the baby out! My doctor told me it would be at least a week before the baby came; after all I wasn’t dilated at all. “But just in case”, he said, “I’m not going to be here this weekend. When I got home, I started cleaning my bedroom and began to feel a sharp pain inside my stomach. I told my mother in-law and she said I’m going to have the baby, I said to her but my doctor said not until another week. She asked me to take a bath, my sister in law was in the bathroom with me timing my contractions, and it was very close. My husband came home around 9pm and we left for Woman’s College hospital. When I arrived I quickly went into the examination room.
After 4 hours of fetal heartbeat monitoring and checking my dilation, the nurse sent my husband to walk the hallways because I was one and half centimeters dilated. I needed to be at least 8 centimeters dilated before I could have the baby. The pain was like having your insides twisted, pulled, and squeezed. If I fought it, the pain became worse. An hour passes by and the pains were getting worse, the nurse put me down again and started monitoring me, she gave me morphine to calm the pain. My husband was catching winks whenever he could. The nurse came back a half hour later and said the baby’s heart rate dropped so an emergency C-section has to be done. My husband and I began to pray for a smooth delivery and regardless of the sex, a health baby. They gave me the epidural (a needle that was given to freeze my back) and I was off to the delivery room.
Weak and unable to feel anything below my waist, a baby is crying repeatedly in the doctor’s hands covered in blood. My husband’s tearful eyes smiles (with all teeth showing) and shouts to me “babe it’s a girl” As the doctor and nurses cut the umbilical cord and rinse the baby my husband gives a nurse a camera. Feeling lifeless I hold my new child tight and say “cheese”. Our first family photo with our new born named FAITH.
In the recovery alone with my husband as the baby is being monitored for safety precautions in the intensive care unit, we praise the lord for this blessed day. (September 3, 2004) And now that I’ve had her, my fears have disappeared and I’ve realized the way to be a mother isn’t taught, it’s learned. I’m a proud new mother who values life a bit more now because I am responsible for one. I promise to provide, honor and care for the well being of this new loving soul that has changed my life entirely.

Get rid of “back in” in the first sentence.

I like the use of the semi-colon in the first paragraph but you could also just replace it with “and” so the paragraph flows better.

Sentence should be “Being pregnant would be…” not “Being pregnant will be…” (Try to keep verb tenses the same throughout)

“Feel better” in the next sentence is out of place. Maybe try adding a connecting phrase so it reads “…care of myself in an effort to feel better and…”

You need to close off the doctor’s quote after he’s finished speaking in the second paragraph.

Mother-in-law (whole title of three words connected with hyphens).

“I said to her but my doctor…” sentence is confusing. Is this a direct quote without quotations or just a mistake?

Insert a “while” between “She asked me to take a bath…” and “my sister-in-law was in the bathroom…” (Note the hyphens in the title here also.)

I’m not sure but I think it should be “one and a half” in the next paragraph’s opening sentence.

Another verb tense issue – should be “An hour passed by…”

Make “She gave me morphine…” it’s own sentence.

Change “a health baby” to “a healthy baby”

Fix all verbs in second to last paragraph to the same tense (either change all to present or all to past).

The sentence starting with “My husband’s tearful eyes…” needs to be slightly reworked as it sounds like his eyes have teeth.

——-All in all, I liked it. Some minor grammatical errors but nothing wrong with the content at all. It’s a really sweet story too, by the by.

baby gender..?

So i was told 3 times threw out my pregnancy he is a boy and at 26weeks it was clear to see he really was i mean it was big and just wiggleing lol i have a pic its not that clear because i had to take a pic of it with my camera phone it dosent look as big as it did on the monitor.
But now i keep reading horror storys people saying they got told so many times it was a boy and came out a girl… We are just so ready for a boy.
When i seen his pp at 26weeks doctor didnt even have to tell me it was a pp i knew alredy and i was kinda scared if it was normal because to me is looks huge for a baby. At my baby shower everyone was like WOW!

admin answers:

Hahah – I think you can be sure that he’s a boy !

I know the feeling though, if this little one was actually a girl I think she would have to dress tomboy-ish for a little while. I have soo much boy stuff!

Mind you, I have had alot of scans now due to my baby having CCAM and have seen his pp many times so I think I can say for sure its a boy!

Davina asks…

regular then irregular contractions over 3 days 2 cm dilated and 50% effaced how much longer till baby here?

hi all

im currently 37 weeks and 4 days pregnant
it all started tuesday at 5pm i started having regular contractions that i was timing every 15 minutes they wasn’t making me double over so decided to still go for a meal that was arranged with my best friend. we had our meal and my contractions were still coming every 15 minutes to my calculation. luckily enough the hospital i am due to deliver at was litrally a hop skip and a jump from the restaurant so i called the delivery suite and told them what was happening. they asked me if i had felt my baby girl move more than 10 times that day and of course i wasn’t to sure due to having contractions. they told me to pop over and they put me on a monitor to check the baby‘s heartbeat and also my contractions. as soon as i was put on the machine i started having regular contractions at 4 minutes apart. they left me on there for a hour and the contractions still came on the dot. they did an internal and told me i was 2 to 3 cm dilated and 50% effaced. but was advised to go home until the labour progressed further. i did so and left it another 20 hours and phoned back as i felt the contractions were a little stronger i went back to hospital and my contractions had slowed down to 8 minutes apart so they didnt do another internal. and im still here 3 days later still having my contractions but no sign of labour progressing. anyone else been in the same situation and if so how long was you waiting until your bundle of joy arrived? or if anyone has any ideas please right back thanks

admin answers:

LOL I am due about the same day you are my due date is Aug. 4th. Now I have been on bed rest until 36 weeks for preterm labor but that aside now I am having contractions that come and go but they will be regular for hours and mine are close enough together to be considered labor they are about every 3 min. And lasting about 1/1/2 – 2 min in length. But just like at 2 a.m. Last night they eventually fizzled out and went away. I was at a 2 when I went in on Tues for my appt. But I lost my plug last night with the contractions. I was told a good way to tell if its the real thing is to lay down for a few hours and see if they are still consistent and getting closer together, and stronger. Now this theory does not work for me because mine don’t just go away with laying down for some reason. But that’s what the dr. Told me to look for that and the change in intensity. Good luck Looks like we will both be having July babies :)

I’m stressed out on preparing for baby!!?

I just had a baby shower over the weekend and all I got were clothes. I registered in Babies R Us and only one person went with the list but the least expensive stuff like bottles and pacifiers…geez now we have to shell out tons of dough for the main things I need like bassinet, breast pump, sterilizer, monitor, playpen combo..etc. I was so sad and some people didn’t even bring presents, just their appetites. I had a nightmare previously that all I got were clothes and who’d have guess my nightmare came true! Help, I’m already 6 months pregnant and are not prepared. When is the best time to get major baby stuff? Should I wait or get the big things little by little?
Please don’t be so critical, it may sound crude but save the tired lectures. I’m just asking for good advice on when to prepare.

admin answers:

I’m sorry your shower didn’t go they way you wanted it to. I didn’t even have a shower. My mom was going to throw me one, but never got around to it.
Clothes are awesome. You can never have enough clothes. For the first 3 months, I think I changed my daughter atleast 3 times a day.

Get the big things little by little.
BUT
Check consignment stores.
Think about what things you really need.

For example, most playpens come with a bassinet.
You WON’T need a changing table.
Boil things instead of waisting money on a sterilizer.
Most strollers come with Car Seats.
Sinks make excellent baby baths.
Most hospitals will let you rent their pumps.

Good luck to you, and congradulations.

EDIT: Does no one remember what it’s like to be pregnant, overwhelmed and stressed? She’s not looking for critizm, she’s venting. Jeeze. I’m pretty sure she knows it’s her baby, and I’m pretty sure everyone else here would be hurt if you thought people came to your party just to eat, and not to see you. That’s a horrible feeling.

Jemima asks…

am 34 weeks pregnant and baby is 5.8 pounds?

I went to the doctor today and she did an ultrasound. Said that baby is weighing close to 6 pounds and is big already. She has asked me to visit her every week so that she can monitor the weight of the baby. She also asked me to be mentally prepared for the c-section as well for future.
Doctor checked me internally as well and said that my cervix is tight and closed and the baby‘s head is not yet fixed.
Has anyone had a big baby around 34 weeks? did you end up have the baby naturally or thru c-section.
Thanks in advance for your experience and all d best :)

admin answers:

My son was 5.8 pounds born at 36 weeks. Although he was tiny and a little bit on the preemie side he was perfectly healthy and I got to take him home when I went home. I had a c-section too…I kinda knew it might happen, but in the back of my head I didn’t want it to and didn’t want to fully come to terms with it. I was more focused on delivering vaginally and when I had my c-section they rushed me into it with nobody being able to get there and be with me through my operation. It wasn’t as bad as everybody said it was, no pain during or afterwards…I was sore though and it was hard to walk they would try to get me to walk, but I hated it I had never been weaker. It took about a week o fully walk well for me. And oh the reason I had my c-section was because I was dilating and going into labor, my son was breeched and there wasn’t enough fluid.

Best OPK???

Just want some user feedback on which OPK everyone prefers

I know that the Clear blue easy Fertility monitor is suppose to be the best but I don’t know if I want to shell out all the $$$ for it :~(

So my question is, if you have used one in the past which was it?
And did you get an accurate results from it?
Regardless of whether or not you got Preggers, did it give you an accurate Ovulation date?
If you were charting another way did the dates match up?

Thanks and Baby Dust to everyone TTC!!

admin answers:

I just bought some from www.early-pregnancy-tests.com, it was like $16 for 15 of them and 5 pregnancy tests and I got free shipping. You pee in a cup and then dip the tip of the stick in, and wait for the control line and test line to appear.

I have a long cycle, so I started on day 16 and got a negative since the test line has to be as dark as or darker than the control line. On day 17 I took one in the morning, and it looked like the lines were the same color, so I took that as a positive. I took one later that night and the second line was VERY bold. Then on day 18 I took another one in the morning, and it was positive, but the lines were close to the same color. It says that once you get a positive, you are 24-48 hours away from ovulation. I’m guessing it caught the beginning, middle, and end of my LH peak. I talked to my dr. About this today, as he said he likes the OPK’s better than charting temps, and he said it must be a sensitive test. :) I believe I ovulated on day 19. But you know that once you get the positive, if you have sex the sperm should live until ovulation, so I guess it is a good tool.

I am also charting on fertilityfriend.com and the days do match up to my temperature shift. This was our first cycle TTC, so I don’t know if it worked. We also tried to time it for a girl with the Shettles method and just did it right before I got the positive on the OPK. Good luck!

Is it safe…. 5 week old baby?

To put 5 week old baby to sleep in his crib upstairs in my room after a bath and bottle on hbis own with the monitor on whilst i come downstairs and get on with jobs and other kids etc.
My house is madness at 6 with the other 2 and he just cant settle down he is not the best sleeper either so thinking maybe a proper routine would help. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated

It’s not only safe, it’s recommended! A routine is exactly what he needs. How much trouble can he get into in his crib?
